Changes to the Sponsored Business Visitor (Short Stay) Visa
The Sponsored Business Visitor (Short Stay) visa (subclass 459) allows a business person who has an approved sponsor in Australia, to make a short business visit to Australia for up to three months. Business activities may include a conference, business negotiation or exploratory business visit.
Some legislative changes to the subclass 459 visa will take effect from 1 July 2006 for applications lodged on or after that date:
Imposition of condition 8503 'No Further Stay' will become discretionary, not mandatory.
Imposition of condition 8531 'Must depart within visa validity' will become discretionary, not mandatory.
This visa will have single/multiple entry facility.
These changes will provide greater flexibility for sponsors wishing to bring business visitors to Australia frequently for short periods. To discuss how these changes can benefit your business clients, or to learn more about becoming an approved sponsoring organisation, please contact your nearest DIMA Business Centre.
