A Guide to the New Citizenship Test by Dr Tony Pun OAM

If the Federal Government is going to introduce a Citizenship Test for “Australiana” then the following “Guide to the New Citizenship Test” may be of some use in the future as a reference material.

Some may say that this Guide is nothing more than a “trivial” pursuit or just for fun while others may take this seriously. In the author’s opinion, this is no joke!

The author has some experience in setting multi-choice questions for academic examinations and therefore considers the Guide has educational merits and the topics questioned quite relevant to assess a person’s knowledge of the history and politics (civics) in Australia. To be cognizant of the way of life of ordinary Australians, one must also learn to appreciate Australia's love of TV and sports. This basic knowledge forms the basis of communication between new arrivals and established Australians (irrespective of their country of origin).

I trust you will have fun asking other people for the answer (including your children).

Citizens, do not despair if you fail the test, but consider the difficulties the new arrivals in our country will have to go through to get their citizenship.
